The Throat, by Peter Straub. It's the final book in his ‘Blue Rose’ trilogy. And in the first 3 pages it’s effortlessly explained away the discrepancies between Koko and Mystery by introducing Straub as a character.

Should be interesting.*

* My prediction: Straub’s short story ‘Bunny is Good Bread’ (aka ‘Fee’) will play a major part in this book.
